Déjà vu. Sometimes it’s the nature; other times it’s the people or a piece of architecture, maybe a combination. Sometimes it is just having the feeling of being somewhere else.
When this group of cows came ambling towards me I immediately thought of India. Several people have asked me if that is where this picture is taken. In reality, the picture is from Nicaragua. Ometepe is an island consisting of two volcanoes in the centre of Lago de Nicaragua.
Perhaps it’s the cows. This type of cow comes from India and is used extensively in Latin America too, as it is quite hardy. The man on the bicycle behind the cows appears to have some sort of turban on his head, or maybe it’s the exotic nature around them, that gives a feel of India.
When Joe and I traveled around Sicily, I had a déjà vu moment again. I sat on a church staircase in the small town of Castiglione di Sicilia and glanced at Mount Etna. In this small rustic town I suddenly had the feeling of being back in Latin America. The combination of volcano and rustic houses in the old colonial style was why the image was so similar.
Sometimes it’s nice to immerse yourself in such moments. You are in a kind of bubble, where time stands still and you can be transported to anywhere in the world.
